SpArkling Theatre Studio
SpArkling Theater Studio was founded by two young artists Annora Dong and Sophia Zhu.
SpArkling's artistic inspiration and energy originate from New York, Shanghai and other places. It is committed to lighting up the people and the world around it with creativity and passion through avant-garde experimental drama and physical theater.
The core mission of the studio is to transcend cultural boundaries through art, build deep connections between people, and continue to promote cross-cultural art exchanges on the international stage.
Director – Zhenyu Meng
A performance teacher, theater director, and doctoral candidate in Drama and Film at Shanghai Theatre Academy, specializing in the study and practice of Michael Chekhov's acting technique.
A visiting scholar at the CUNY Graduate Center. His directing works include Requiem, The Blue Bird, The Wandering Dream, Eastward Night Tales, and others. He has participated multiple times in the Shanghai International Arts Festival.
Artistic Consultant – Bethany Caputo
As a practitioner and teacher, Bethany has over 20 years experience working with the tools and principles of Michael Chekhov's Acting Technique.
Her focus is to bring the actor into their body, into the potential of their imagination, and offer them an experience of their creative individuality
Artistic Consultant – PETER ECKERSALL
Peter Eckersall is Professor of Drama at the University of Melbourne, Australia. His main research areas include modern drama, cultural identity, cross-cultural performance and the relationship between performing arts and politics. He explores cross-cultural exchanges and reflections of socio-political changes in performing arts in the context of globalization.
His academic works are far-reaching, covering Australian drama, cross-cultural performance, and how drama responds to public discourse. He is also involved in drama editing, planning and performance work, and has played an important role in promoting the development of drama arts in Australia and around the world.
Physical Director – Jordan Le Bozec
Jordan recently graduated from the William Esper Studio Two Year Meisner Training Program where he trained under Suzanne Esper. After graduating,
he played Pierrot, the mute main character in Arnold Schoenberg's opera Pierrot Lunaire, produced by City Lyric Opera in New York City. Before moving to New York, Jordan trained as a mime by Ella Jaroszewicz
dramaturg – Yi-Ming
Yi-Ming is a Taiwanese dramaturg currently pursuing a MFA in Dramaturgy at Columbia University. His dramaturgical practice often involves experimenting with diverse narrative traditions and exploring materiality in theatre.
Additionally, his own works frequently engage with themes of national identity and everyday conversation. Yi-Ming’s previous projects include serving as a dramaturg for Cabin, A Hunger Artist, In the Bronx Brown Girls Can See Stars Too, and Peer Gynt; directing Old Times and Rapunzel; and writing the plays Landscape in the Mist and Liang Zhu.
Lighting Designer – Athena Yin
Athena Yin is a current undergraduate student at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, studying at the Playwrights Horizon Studio. As an aspiring actress and playwright, she is passionate about storytelling and dedicated to creating authentic and impactful narratives through her unique perspective and approach.
Set Designer – Yingwen Lou
Yvonne (Yingwen) Lou is a multidisciplinary scenic designer and visual artist, currently attending NYU Tisch's Drama Production and Design program. Born in Shanghai, China and having lived in Los Angeles, her multicultural experience has nurtured her creativity and philosophy deeply. She is honored to be a part of this production and to have collaborated with all the amazing artists on the team. Past credits include “Within the Roots” (PHTS, Co-Scenic Design), “The Bacchae” (Tisch Drama Stage, Asst. Scenic Design), “RENT” (Tisch Drama Stage, Production Assistant), and more.
